Understanding Attitudes to Immigration
That summer I met the love of my life - a man I married three years later in 2003.
And we have been living happily ever after.
Prior to "happily ever after" my father passed away on Christams morning of 2000 and my mother died on July 4th 2001.
I was left with my 10 year old sister.
So, I legally adopted Aleksandra.
Finished my studies at the University.
Rented out my apartments in Krasnodar.
Ralph and I started to work at the Bistro in Boothbay Harbor.
Now we own the Bistro, McSeagulls, and Mine Oytser.
Essential Question:
Why do attitudes towards immigration vary and what are they based on?
1) What do we base our opinions on?
Write down the first three words that come to mind when you hear "Africa".
Write down the first three words that come to mind when you hear "Canada".
Write the first three words that come to mind when you hear "Russia".
How about:

My Autobiography
I was born in 1980 in Krasnodar.
From 1987- 1997, I attended a Linguistic School where I learned my French and my English.
In 1997, I entered Kuban State University, Linguistic Department.
In 2000 I first came to the US as a student as a participant of Work and Travel program.
I worked the summer of 2000 at Spruce Point Inn in Boothbay Harbor.

In the summer we employ over 120 people (15-20 of whom are exchange students)
In 2010, I got my US Citizenship.
In 2011, I got my second Master's in Teaching from the USM and got certified to teach in Maine.
In 2010, my sister graduated in the 10 top of her class from BRHS and entered Mount Holyoke College in Massachusetts.
She is studying neuroscience and is working on her admission to a Medical School.
Now that you know us - Ralph, Aleksandra, and I - we are people who came here to live from elsewhere.
We are immigrants.
How do you feel about us?
